Reporting third-quarter revenue of €7,486 million, up 7.2 percent at constant exchange rates, EssilorLuxottica said its wearables revenue rose 20 percent and called it an emerging category it leads. It does not break out Ray-Ban Meta units or revenue, so this growth rate is the nearest thing to a public figure for how the Meta partnership is selling — and it is the manufacturer’s number, covering the whole wearables line rather than Meta’s products alone.

Meta said online ordering and retail sales for Meta Ray-Ban Display would start October 13 in Paris, Milan, Rome, Frankfurt, Hamburg and Munich. The rollout covered France, Italy and Germany.

Meta introduced Tahan, an Ethernet-based scale-up switch. Meta said Tahan was purpose-built for its MTIA 300 training accelerators.

Hans Anders suspended sales of Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses in the Netherlands and Belgium. Reuters reported that the retailer cited privacy concerns and debate over smart glasses and their conditions of use.

Consumentenbond said it would sue Meta if the company did not modify its camera glasses within two weeks. The consumer group said it had sent Meta a formal demand letter seeking changes to the glasses and their default settings.

Meta introduced a wider lineup of AI glasses across the Ray-Ban, Oakley and Meta Glasses brands, including its first audio glasses with open-ear audio in every pair, and said more than 100 styles of AI glasses would be available by the end of the year.

Meta debuted Meta VR Glasses, describing it as a device as wearable as glasses that delivers an IMAX-grade cinema experience and full spatial computing with a personal AI agent. The debut put a glasses-form device alongside the Quest headsets the company had shipped for seven years.

Meta engineering vice president Song Ijun said MTIA 450, code-named Arke, was planned for introduction to data centers in the first half of 2027. The statement was reported as a Bloomberg interview conducted on September 15.

Broadcom's AI semiconductor revenue more than tripled to $16.7 billion with custom accelerators 73 percent of it, and Hock Tan laid out the customer roadmap: multi-tens of billions of dollars of TPUs a year for Google, 1 GW of Ironwood for Anthropic in 2026 then 5 GW of TPU 8i in 2027 and 10 GW more in 2028, 1.3 GW of Jalapeño for OpenAI in 2027 with a second generation near tape-out and a third in development, and MTIA production shipments for Meta. Guidance: $21.7 billion of AI revenue in Q4, $58 billion for fiscal 2026 and about $115 billion in fiscal 2027.

Bloomberg reported that 12 units of Meta's new model arrived from TSMC on September 1. The report said their performance was within 2% to 3% of Meta's simulations.

Meta presented the MTIA 400 from its March roadmap and Microsoft gave its deepest account of Maia 200's architecture: 140 billion transistors, six HBM3E stacks and a 750 W envelope, a deliberately less aggressive design than its rivals'. ServeTheHome noted that AI accelerators had overtaken CPUs as the largest track at the conference, a measure of how much engineering the hyperscalers now put into their own silicon.

Meta reported Reality Labs revenue of $431 million for the quarter and an operating loss of $4.62 billion, against a $4.53 billion loss in the same quarter a year earlier. The segment's operating loss for the first six months of 2026 reached $8.65 billion, narrower than the $8.74 billion it lost over the first half of 2025.

AMD said Meta had begun testing and validating workloads on AMD Helios racks. AMD also said Meta was validating sixth-generation EPYC CPU platforms in its labs.

AMD launched the Instinct MI400 series, with the MI455X in Helios racks for frontier AI and the MI430X for sovereign AI and HPC, and named OpenAI, Anthropic, Meta, Microsoft, Oracle, HUMAIN, Tensorwave, Vultr and Cirrascale among the organisations choosing Helios.

Meta and EssilorLuxottica introduced Meta Glasses, a line carrying Meta's own name rather than Ray-Ban's or Oakley's, starting at $299 and compatible with prescription lenses. The launch included a collection designed with Kylie Jenner, her first wearable-technology venture.

Meta and EssilorLuxottica put the second-generation Ray-Ban Meta and the Oakley Meta HSTN and Vanguard styles on sale in Japan. Meta described Ray-Ban Meta as the best-selling AI glasses in the world, with millions sold, which is one of the few sales statements the company makes about the line at all.

Reality Labs generated $402 million of revenue and a $4.028 billion operating loss in the first quarter of 2026. The results covered the three months ended March 31, 2026.

Meta announced a companywide restructuring that would remove roughly 8,000 of 78,865 employees on May 20, after smaller cuts of 1,000 to 1,500 in Reality Labs in January and 700 in March, with thousands more redirected into new AI teams as capital spending on AI rose; reports of a 20 percent reduction were called speculative by the company.

Meta extended its Broadcom partnership through 2029 with an initial 1 GW deployment of MTIA and multiple gigawatts to follow, on what Broadcom said would be the first 2nm AI silicon. The same day Meta disclosed that Broadcom's CEO would not stand for re-election to its board after two years, moving to an advisory role on the chip program. Tan had told analysts in March that the MTIA roadmap was 'alive and well'.

Meta and EssilorLuxottica introduced Ray-Ban Meta Blayzer Optics (Gen 2) and Scriber Optics (Gen 2), starting at $499. US preorders opened on March 31, with sales by optical retailers scheduled to begin April 14.

Meta said it had deployed hundreds of thousands of MTIA chips, renamed the first two parts MTIA 100 and 200, and published a roadmap of four more generations through 2027 that widens the chips from recommendation inference to recommendation training and generative-AI inference, built with Broadcom on modular chiplets. The post committed Meta to iterating silicon at a consumer-hardware pace.

Three months after the first report, The Information said Meta had agreed to a multibillion-dollar deal to rent TPUs from Google Cloud to train and run its next-generation models, alongside multibillion-dollar purchases of Nvidia's Vera Rubin and AMD's MI400 GPUs announced the same month. Meta was buying from every accelerator vendor at once while its own MTIA program continued.

AMD and Meta agreed a multi-year, multi-generation partnership to deploy up to 6 gigawatts of Instinct GPUs. Shipments for the first gigawatt were expected to begin in the second half of 2026 using a custom GPU based on the MI450 architecture, and AMD issued Meta a performance-based warrant for up to 160 million shares.

Reality Labs generated $955 million of revenue and a $6.021 billion operating loss in the fourth quarter of 2025. For full-year 2025, it reported $2.207 billion in revenue and a $19.193 billion operating loss.

Meta began rolling out Conversation Focus to Early Access users of Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta HSTN glasses in the United States and Canada. The feature lets users hear others more easily in noisy environments.

Oracle reported that remaining performance obligations increased by $68 billion in the second quarter to $523 billion. It said the increase included new commitments from Meta, NVIDIA, and others.

MacRumors reported that Apple planned to replace Alan Dye with Stephen Lemay. Lemay had been an Apple designer for more than 25 years.

The Information reported that Meta was negotiating to deploy TPUs in its own data centers in 2027 and to rent them from Google Cloud in 2026, and that Google was now promoting TPUs for installation in customers' facilities rather than only in its cloud. Alphabet rose 4 percent and Nvidia fell as much as 7 percent on the report; a Google spokesperson said demand for both TPUs and Nvidia GPUs was accelerating.

Reality Labs generated $470 million of revenue and a $4.432 billion operating loss in the third quarter of 2025. Meta said retailers' procurement of Quest headsets for the holiday season was recorded as third-quarter Reality Labs revenue.

Meta Ray-Ban Display became available for purchase at select US retailers. The glasses were sold with the Meta Neural Band and had a starting price of $799.

Meta announced Oakley Meta Vanguard performance AI glasses at $499 and opened online preorders. Meta set October 21, 2025 as the planned launch date.

Meta stated that Ray-Ban Meta glasses had sold millions of units since launch. Meta did not provide a precise unit figure in the cited statement.

Meta announced Oakley Meta HSTN under its EssilorLuxottica partnership. Meta said the limited-edition model would be available for preorder from July 11 for $499, while the rest of the collection would start at $399 later in the summer.

AMD reported that Meta detailed broad MI300X deployment for Llama 3 and Llama 4 inference. The statement concerned AMD Instinct MI300X deployments.

Meta merged the Meta AI app with the Meta View companion app for Ray-Ban Meta glasses. Users in some countries could switch from interacting with Meta AI on glasses to the app.

Reuters, via TechCrunch, reported that Meta was testing an in-house chip for training AI systems as part of its strategy to reduce reliance on Nvidia and other hardware makers. It was the first sign that MTIA would move from recommendation inference into training, which Meta confirmed a year later with the MTIA 300 to 500 roadmap.

Meta made Meta for Education generally available for use with Meta Quest devices. The offering combines a Meta Quest headset with a subscription to Meta Horizon managed services for education.

Reality Labs recorded $1.083 billion in fourth-quarter 2024 revenue and a $4.967 billion operating loss. For full-year 2024, it recorded $2.146 billion in revenue and a $17.729 billion operating loss.

Mark Zuckerberg told managers Meta would raise the bar on performance and move out roughly 5 percent of employees, about 3,600 of 72,000, in a February cut, with the company's headcount expected to be down 10 percent by the end of the performance cycle including attrition. It set the tone for a year in which performance-based cuts at Microsoft and others followed.

Meta made Meta Quest 3S available for purchase. Meta Quest stated that the headset was then available.

UploadVR reported that Meta would discontinue Meta Quest 2 and Meta Quest Pro by the end of 2024 or when stock ran out. The report attributed the discontinuation plan to Meta.

Meta reduced the United States price of the 512GB Meta Quest 3 from $649.99 to $499.99. UploadVR reported that the 128GB Quest 3 model was being discontinued.

Meta unveiled Meta Quest 3S with a starting price of $299.99. Meta described the headset as an option for people new to mixed reality and immersive experiences or upgrading from Quest and Quest 2.

Meta showed Orion, previously codenamed Project Nazare, calling it the most advanced pair of AR glasses ever made, and said it would give employees and selected external audiences access rather than put it on sale. The glasses were presented as the result of work across most fields of modern computing.

Meta detailed its next MTIA inference chip, a year after revealing the first, with more than twice the compute and memory bandwidth of v1 and an SRAM-heavy design tuned for the ads ranking and recommendation models that run its feeds. Meta framed MTIA as a long-term program to own the most efficient silicon for its own workloads rather than a general challenger to GPUs.

At Connect 2021 Mark Zuckerberg introduced Meta as a single company brand over the apps and hardware, and said the company's focus would be bringing the metaverse to life. The rename put the headset business, until then a division inside a social network, at the front of the company's stated purpose.
