Anthropic's Claude: From the Claude 3 Family to a Model the Government Switched Off

Anthropic began the Claude 3 line in March 2024 with Opus, Sonnet and Haiku tiers, then moved the series toward hybrid reasoning, computer use, coding and autonomous agent work. Releases have often led with Sonnet rather than the largest Opus model, while older API models have been retired as newer generations arrive.
