Nintendo announced a Japanese-language-only Nintendo Switch 2 Choose-Your-Game Bundle for release in Japan on November 12 at ¥63,980. The bundle includes a system and a download code for one of three Nintendo digital games.

Nintendo released a Nintendo Switch 2 and Mario Kart World bundle on September 18, 2026. The bundle includes a game download and a three-month Nintendo Switch Online Individual Membership for $549.99, which Nintendo said was a $37.98 saving against separate suggested retail prices.

The 45-minute Direct laid out the second winter of Switch 2 software: Monster Hunter Wilds with local co-op on December 4, Final Fantasy VII Revelation in April 2027, The Witcher 3 remastered, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity on February 25, 2027, a new 2D Metroid, Ravenous, and a new Kirby to close, with no 3D Mario. The lineup is what Nintendo is counting on to carry a $499.99 console through the holidays.

Nintendo announced the Nintendo Switch 2 – The Legend of Zelda – 40th Anniversary Edition for October 29. Nintendo said the system does not include a game, and Tom’s Hardware reported a US price of $520.

Nintendo devoted a 30-minute Direct to Zelda's 40th anniversary, built around the Switch 2 remake of Ocarina of Time due in November, a playable ocarina, a museum exhibition and concert tour, and the logo and April 30, 2027 date for the live-action film. Nintendo Life reported a Zelda special-edition Switch 2 console and Pro Controller for October.

Nintendo said selected products in Europe would be replaced on a rolling basis with revisions containing user-replaceable batteries starting in summer 2026. Nintendo Life reported on September 7 that the revised Switch 2 model was available to buy in multiple regions.

Sony moved to dismiss the consolidated PS5 case in the Northern District of California on August 31, after Microsoft's August 21 motion in the Western District of Washington and Nintendo's on July 20, all arguing that paying an advertised price for a voluntarily purchased console is not a legal injury and that the price rises reflected inflation, component costs and demand rather than tariffs alone. Sony noted its second, $100 increase came after the tariffs were struck down. Costco and Walmart said refunds would flow to customers as lower prices; Nintendo's refund was put at about $300 million.

Nintendo sold 3.82 million Switch 2 units in the June quarter, 34 percent fewer than the 5.82 million launch quarter a year earlier but more than the 2.49 million of the preceding quarter, for 23.68 million since launch, passing the GameCube's lifetime total. Operating profit rose 150 percent. Nintendo said sell-through remained solid despite the Japanese price revision and still exceeded the original Switch's pace.

Nintendo moved to dismiss the proposed consumer class action brought by Hoffert and Sharan. It argued that plaintiffs were not entitled to a rebate based on legal developments related to tariffs.

Nintendo confirmed that the Switch, Switch Lite and Switch OLED would no longer be supplied to European retailers from mid-February 2027, a consequence of EU battery rules rather than demand, leaving Switch 2 as the only Nintendo console in the region. The nine-year-old Switch had passed 155 million units.

The Japanese-language Switch 2 went from ¥49,980 to ¥59,980. Famitsu charts cited by Video Games Chronicle showed weekly sales spiking above 200,000 in the three weeks before the change, to 247,880 in the final week, then falling to 31,751 in the week after, a preview of the demand shape Western markets would face on September 1.

Nintendo closed the fiscal year at 19.86 million Switch 2 units, ahead of its 19 million target, with Mario Kart World at 14.70 million, and in the same breath announced price revisions in light of market conditions: ¥49,980 to ¥59,980 in Japan from May 25, $449.99 to $499.99 in the US, C$679.99 in Canada and €499.99 in Europe from September 1, with the original Switch and Nintendo Switch Online going up too. It forecast 16.5 million units for the new year and said memory prices and tariffs would cost about ¥100 billion.

Gregory Hoffert and Prashant Sharan filed a proposed class action against Nintendo of America. They alleged Nintendo could recover tariff payments from consumers through higher prices and from the federal government through refunds.

Nintendo of America filed at the Court of International Trade seeking every IEEPA duty it had paid, with interest and fees, joining more than a thousand companies that had already sued. Its complaint put total IEEPA collections above $200 billion. The tariffs had pushed console makers to raise prices in 2025, which is what later turned the refunds into consumer class actions.

In the report that said Sony might delay the PS6, Bloomberg wrote that Nintendo was contemplating raising the Switch 2's price in 2026 because DRAM and NAND prices had jumped as memory makers diverted output to AI data centers, and noted Nintendo had raised the original Switch's price before under economic pressure. Three months later Nintendo did exactly that.

Bloomberg reported that Sony was considering delaying its next console from 2027 to 2028 or even 2029 because DRAM and NAND prices had soared, with memory makers diverting output to AI data centers, and that Nintendo was contemplating a Switch 2 price rise for the same reason. A 2029 launch would be the longest gap between PlayStation generations, and Sony's own executives spent the rest of the year declining to name a date.

Nintendo sold 7 million Switch 2 units in the December quarter, taking the total to 17.37 million and answering investors who had feared a holiday slowdown after the shares fell more than 30 percent from their August record. Revenue rose 86 percent. Nintendo called Switch 2 its fastest-selling console; the original Switch passed the DS as its best-selling hardware ever.

With 10.36 million Switch 2 units sold by the end of September, Mario Kart World at 9.57 million and Donkey Kong Bananza at 3.49 million, Nintendo lifted its full-year forecast from 15 to 19 million and its operating profit outlook by 16 percent. Furukawa called the first holiday season the key proving ground.

Nintendo reported 5.82 million Switch 2 units through June and the same day raised US prices of the original Switch, Switch Lite and OLED model from August 3 for market conditions, a day after a 20 percent tariff on Vietnam took effect. Switch 2 itself, games and Nintendo Switch Online were unchanged, with a warning that adjustments might be necessary in the future.

Switch 2 went on sale June 5 with Mario Kart World and sold more than 3.5 million units worldwide in four days, the highest four-day total for any Nintendo system and, by analysts' reckoning, for any console. Major US retailers went out of stock; analysts said the 15 million forecast was conservative.

Nintendo's first Switch 2 forecast was 15 million units by March 2026, below what analysts expected, alongside a 31 percent drop in Switch sales to 10.8 million. Furukawa said the target matched the original Switch's first ten months, that the relatively high price was a challenge to early adoption, and that production limits and US tariffs were not the reason, while saying prices could rise if tariffs changed significantly.

Nintendo set the launch for June 5, 2025 at ¥49,980 for a Japanese-language system and $449.99 in the United States, with a Mario Kart World bundle, a bigger screen, magnetic Joy-Con 2 controllers that work as a mouse, and GameChat voice and video chat. The price, $150 above the original Switch, became the story of the next two months as Trump's tariffs landed the same day.

Nintendo showed the Switch 2 for the first time in a short video and confirmed a 2025 release and backward compatibility with physical and digital Switch games, with details held for a dedicated Nintendo Direct on April 2 and hands-on events in cities worldwide from April. The name settled the question of whether the console was a successor or a new platform: it was Switch, again.

Alongside results showing Switch sales of 15.7 million and a forecast of 13.5 million for the year ahead, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa posted that the company would announce the successor to Nintendo Switch within the fiscal year ending March 2025, more than nine years after the Switch itself was first revealed. It ended years of speculation about when the seven-year-old console would be replaced.

Microsoft said it reached a binding 10-year legal agreement with Nintendo. The agreement concerned Call of Duty availability for Nintendo Switch devices.
